PERSISTANCE Takes Jessica Watson Around The World in 210 Days!
What inspires someone at 11 years of age to set a 'Goal' to circumnavigate the world non-stop in a small yacht, solo and unassisted?
What I find even more impressive than the attainment of the goal, which for her can be only described as an 'extraordinary project' is the fact that for 5 years of her life since the inception of that first 'thought' she held steadfast on her dream, her project, her calling and was then able to attract the people, the places, the circumstances, the skills, the finances and above all else the emotional intelligence and tenacity at such a young age to manifest it's reality.
This is an extraordinary feat from an exceptional young woman. It also demonstrates that we are powerful beyond measure. Jessica Watson has sailed into our hearts and into our minds and at the same time proved a nation of sceptics wrong.
Why is it when someone wants to live their dream, there is always someone standing by to plant the seed of 'fear and doubt'? This is what Layne Beachley (multiple female world surfing champion) had to say; "Extraordinary. Most of the population will spend most of their lives not going outside their comfort zone. But she has, and what she has achieved is enormous…"
Jessica was quoted as saying, "For me it was never about the record…
"It started out as something that was a personal challenge , but it's become so much more, and it's amazing to be able to share it and inspire other people…"
What is also interesting is the mute farewell she received when she set off 210 days earlier. Barely two dozen boats were on hand to say goodbye, with much of the nation questioning the wisdom of allowing her to set sail and fulfil her dream versus an estimated 50,000 spectators and the pride of the nation displayed on her arrival back home.
"The whole country is proud of Jess's wonderful achievement" – Prime Minister Kevin Rudd
Jessica has been hailed as – "our newest Australian hero" and almost everyone is now bathing in her glory. Refreshingly down to earth and humbled by the response to her extraordinary achievement she made these profound comments...
"I don't consider myself a hero, just an ordinary girl who believed in a dream"
"You don't have to be someone special to achieve something amazing. You've just got to have a dream, believe in it and work hard"
On Australia day her message to young Australians was to "Live Your Dreams". She pleaded for more respect to be given to other youngsters who wanted to chase their dreams. She was quoted as saying;
"We can behave how you want us to if you treat us with respect and if we're given the freedom to achieve things…"
When her parents were questioned about their extraordinary daughter, they replied – "we always held an unshakeable belief in our daughter and Jessica was quoted as saying – "she was grateful for the faith shown in her, by her family and by those who believed in her…"
So what are the Big Ideas from this message?
*Never loose sight of your dreams.
*When you hold you attention and intention of an extraordinary project the universe conspires with you.
*Detach yourself from the 'good opinion' of other people. What they think of you is none of your business.
*Records don't count. The attainment of a worthy ideal, an extraordinary project or goals has inexplicable personal benefits
*Belief, Faith and Action coupled with Persistence is the secret recipe to achieve extraordinary results
